The Oakland Raiders commemorated Filipino American History month with its second annual Mabuhay Fiesta on October 18 at the Oakland Coliseum in California. Festivities kicked off prior to the Raiders’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles at “Raiderville” with a musical showcase hosted by Franco Finn and Jason Mateo. Performers included Lil Jordan, Soulciety, Desi Arnez, Steps, Styles and Spotlights as well as Trackademics. There was also an appearance by boxing champ Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton, who signed autographs and took pictures with numerous fans. The Philippine Madrigal Singers formally opened the game by singing the “Star-Spangled Banner”; the Likha Folk Ensemble, Parangal Dance Company and Kawayan Folk Arts provided entertainment during halftime. Filipino celebrities Manny Pacquiao, Lea Salonga and Kuh Ledesma were also seen in video messages on the jumbotron throughout the game. Proceeds from ticket sales were partly donated to the Typhoon Ondoy/Ketsana relief efforts.
